There are times when a skunk falls down your window wall. In such instances, you need to follow a few tried and tested tips to help you get the skunk out of your window well. The simplest option available to you is to coax the skunk to leave on its own. For this, you may have to put a wooden board down the window well.
Use a wooden board
First, try to use a wooden board to help the skunk walk off on its own. Keep in mind the sooner it leaves the better it is because otherwise it would be hard to stand the foul smell given off by skunks. In addition, skunks can also do damage to your property which is why you need to take quick action. You could even think about scaring them away. A window well that is not too deep will allow you to place a wooden board, which you can lower into the window well to a depth of about two feet. This is the easiest way to get them out.
Snare poles
Second, when the time comes for getting skunks out of the window well, you could think about using a snare pole to capture them. A snare pole is another good option as it allows you to remove the skunk without too much problem.
Shoot and kill the skunk
Third, you may want to consider shooting the skunk and removing its carcass from the window well. However, before you opt for this option, you have to ensure that your state regulations permit this. Otherwise, you could end up getting into trouble with your local authorities. Also, make sure you use this option as a last resort and use it only when you have tried ways to get the skunk out of the window well and none of those methods worked.
Garbage can
Fourth, you could also think about getting the skunk out by using a garbage can which is attached to a rope. Just attach the rope to the garbage can's handle and then put some meat into the can so that the animal is encouraged to enter the can. Lower the can into the window well and wait for the skunk to get into the can. Once in, simply tilt the can until it is in a vertical position and then lift the animal out of the well. Just make sure you stay well clear of it as you do not want to have it spraying you. Once you have caught the animal, you can then take it somewhere far off and release it there.
After removing the skunk from the window well, you need to make sure it does not get back in. for this, you will need install a wire mesh screen over the well's opening. This will not block light from entering the window well and at the same time, it will also not allow the animal to reenter the well.
